Linux
Linux is free operating system that did not have a broader commercial use until the formation of Apache Web server which together with Linux provided reliable solution to run a large number of web pages.
The progress of Linux on the desktop goes slower and it is still relatively rare phenomenon in the home and office computers. However, there is a lot of programs for Linux for various purposes: office packages, web browsers, file sharing, mail clients, PDF viewers, software for viewing and manipulation of images, multimedia, software for recording CD and DVD, and many specialized programs for professionals.
